I vår forskargrupp är vi intresserade av hur hjärnan reglerar agerande i olika situationer – sett från ett neurobiologiskt perspektiv. Den subtalamiska kärnan (STN) och dopamin/glutamat-signalering från ventrala tegmentala arean (VTA) reglerar både affektiva och kognitiva processer och påverkar också motorik. Funktionen är nedsatt i flera svåra sjukdomar såsom Parkinson, ångest, tvångsbeteende och beroende. Bättre behandling bygger på ökad kunskap om underliggande nervcellskretsar, både anatomisk uppbyggnad och fysiologisk funktion. Vi jobbar med båda dessa aspekter och använder oss av molekylära, histologiska, transgena och optogenetiska metoder. Vi kopplar enskilda nervcellers funktion till hela individens beteende och hur det påverkas av olika sammanhang. Allt för att utröna hjärnans komplexitet i vårt dagliga liv – i hälsa och ohälsa.
