Evolution of developmental biological mechanisms in plants

By using gain- and loss-of-function mutants, gene expression reporters and other molecular tools, we study the differences and similarities in how land plants, separated by several hundred million years of evolution, regulate growth and development in response to predetermined genetic programs as well as environmental factors. We routinely employ CRISPR, artificial micro RNAs and different promoters fused to reporter genes to create mutants and transgenic plants. Gene expression is mainly studied using RNAseq, qRT-PCR and expression marker such as GUS and LUC. We are also developing methods to study circadian movements and clock function in basal land plants.
