Aaron Vogan - Principal investigator
I began my independent research at Uppsala University in June 2020, funded by a FORMAS early-career researcher grant. I obtained my PhD from McMaster University (Canada) in 2016 on the evolution and genetics of the human fungal pathogen, Cryptococcus neoformans. Then, from 2016 – 2020 I was a post-doc with Hanna Johannesson at Uppsala University, where I worked on meiotic drive in the model fungal genera Neurospora and Podospora. My research interests involve understanding fungal evolution from a genomics perspective. I aim to uncover how fungi acquire pathogenic traits, with a particular interest on the role of horizontal gene transfer and transposable elements. As part of this broader question, I’m also interested in understanding the origin and maintenance of accessory genomes.
