Neotropical flowering plants

My research encompasses studies of selected groups of flowering plants in South America and adjacent, tropical areas, and is to a large extent based on extensive field activities.  It includes floristic inventories to explore the flora of Ecuador, systematic studies dealing with the phylogeny and classification of selected groups of flowering plants, taxonomic treatments dealing with species hypotheses and circumscriptions of taxa at the species level, and studies of diversification patterns within species and groups of closely related species along ecological gradients and between isolated areas. Focusing on the Andes and the adjacent lowlands, diversity issues related to both natural processes as well as historic and present human activities also form a part of the programme.
